Smiling at Me

Smiling at Me

If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! Matthew 7:11

I’m sitting here smiling. Big smile. Why, you ask? God. His surprises. Gifts. Little things that tell us He notices us.

What is it today? My view. My office today is in Iowa City, overlooking Kinnick Stadium in Children’s Hospital. Gets even better. My view is actually one of the entire campus, stretching on for miles. You might wonder why this makes me smile, knowing I’m an alumnus of the University of Nebraska. Yes, Iowa and Nebraska are rivals. Go Big Red! But that doesn’t matter today with this view. No football game today – just my view of the stadium from the twelfth floor of Children’s Hospital.

Why do I smile at this gift? Because I wondered aloud about coming up here. I toyed with finding it, asking if I could just take a peek at the view.

But I never had to do that. Why? Because I asked a sweet nurse if she knew any place I could quietly work today while my husband completed his job on another floor. And she immediately brought me here.

Do you see? My gift? I wondered how I could sneak a peek up here. But God gave me hours with this view. He gave me more than I thought to ask Him for.

What makes you smile? What has God recently surprised you with? How have you noticed He sees you? I mean really sees you?

Matthew 7:11 reminds us God will give good gifts to us, His children, when we ask. No, we can’t hand God a laundry list and expect it by 3pm. And we often don’t get our little asks as well. But, God does give us good gifts. The question is, do you notice them?
